AMC Price Guide 2006

There is a number of things
I want to mention on the prices I have there. My compilation is from several
things:
1. I have been compiling for many years the Shut Up & Drive Lists on my
website,a  free effort to help people find their AMC dream car. With that I get to
see lots of cars for sale, all spectrums. I do not, repeat do not use ebay
as any type of market barometer simply because the shilling is out of
control and difficult, if not outright impossible, to detect by ebay. I have
something about that on my site also,
nor do I even bother with orgy's like Barrett Jackson, but DO however watch,
and take into account Old Cars Weekly Auction Results from across the
country.

I also have not one, but TWO online price guides on my website's "amcs for
sale" file:
http://www.collectorcarmarket.com/menus/amyrd.htm

and
http://manheimgold.com/

and as the second one mentions, there are a lot of things to take into
consideration. For instance a few months ago I sent you photos of a 70 Rebel
Machine for sale for $4500. It is still for sale. I just passed on a 70 AMX,
no engine or trans but good body, for $600. My own 71 SC/360 has been for
sale for 5 months and only one bite for $10,000. And I have had a number of
Katrina and Rita cars pop up for sale people have offered, have only bought
three, and good deals. So there is a lot to be considered from originality,
rust, engine (why is it the lowest production AMX, a 69 290/AT with only 299
made, no one wanted then or now? A fellow in Dallas finally sold his 69 Big
Bad Orange 69 290/AT for $3000 after 2 years, keep in mind 284 BBO AMXs made
and when you consider how few 290/AT his was probably only one in existence)
unusual combinations of options like my "trifecta" of 4speed with AC & tilt;
mileage, what has been done to the vehicle like new engine, new brakes, and
what it may need like floorpan, hood, dash. And while there have been
wonderful gains in the reproduction market for AMX & Javelin in the past 10
years.....some items are outright obsolete. All has to be taken into
consideration with a AMC anything.

Also my 'amcs for sale' has some good Texan advise. Not everyone agrees with
it, especially those who have had to farm out work and have $25,000 into a
car they can't get $16,000 for in 2006. They should have not had open
checkbook at body shop either.

If you can find it....in Collector Cars of the 60s/70s I did a big four page
article in 1989(?) called What's It Worth?. Remember...fortune Magazine was predicting in
their Sept 26th, 1988 issue that "AMXs were going to increase in value 438%
by the year 2000" so it was a mess, people calling as far as Japan
and Germany wanting a AMX or me to sell them one, I must have sold 13 in 5
weeks, not bad! It didn't happen then and I warned people to simply don't
let the money burn hole in pocket. Yes, some cars are a handful left, but
you see cars from the 30s, 40s, 50s also a handful left and not burning up
any price guides like a hemi ragtop Mopar.

My best bit of advise is to simply LEARN as much as you can about the car
you are considering when buying a AMC. You will find tons of FREE info, not
only cars for sale, but decoding, charts, clubs, chapters, registries, and
well, on my site, as said before if I sell something in the meantime, yea for me, pays
for another box of pampers and more AMC crap. Hope some of this helps.

The "Low" is high #4/low #3, the "Average" is high #3/low #2 and "High"
is high #2 and all #1 condition cars.
