In 1965 I started 1st grade at beautiful Corpus Christi Cathedral. Am LEFT HANDED. The nun, Sister Alawishes was my teacher, we had about 70 students in one classroom, largest amount of students of any class (excluding PE at Ray many years later). NO LEFT HANDERS as we were spawns of Satan though.
Ok, 2-3 of us, I remember.
A pencil was taped to my RIGHT hand to write. Draw, anything. But I secretly kept extra pencils in my desk, there was several places you could stash them up under where you sat. So at six years old, could write and do stuff with left hand while right hand in tape prison.
Some might think this was a Catholic school thing, it was not though. Sister Alawishes was one of my favorite nuns except for this. She once told me "William, you have enough dirt under your fingernails to grow taters!" of which dirt was my friend, was poor you know, sometimes wore Cathedral khakis and maroon plaid shirt day after day until it had its own ecosystem.
Anyways, I am not sure where this "left handed kids are evil" book came from, nor am I offended or bummed out about it. Was what it was. If my momma ever found out about it I am sure she would have had something to say, and nuns & Monsignor Schmidt listed to my momma.
